Kanpur is the industrial city located in Utter Pradesh state of India. The city is largest city in the Uttar Pradesh. According to popular belief, the city was founded by the rulers of Sachendi. It is believed that the ancient name of this city was Kanhiyapur named after Kanhiya (Lord Krishna). During the course of time, this name gets abbreviated in to Kanhpur and then to Kanpur.

In the modern times, Kanpur sees the major industrialization after 1857. The city became the hub of textile and Leather industries. It became the home of many big mills and factories including Elgin Mills, Muir Mills, Victoria Mills and Atherton Mills. After 1930, JK family launched many factories in this city. The city has become very much industrialized and it was often referred as "the Manchester of the east".
